Clove
History
Native to the "Spice Islands" of Indonesia, cloves have been a centerpiece of global trade for over 3,500 years. Historically, Han dynasty court officials held cloves in their mouths to freshen their breath while addressing the emperor, and the spice was once so valuable that monopolies were guarded with fierce intensity. Beyond the kitchen, cloves were traditionally planted to celebrate the birth of a child and were believed to hold magical powers of protection and love. In various folk traditions, burning clove as incense was thought to attract financial abundance, stop gossip, and even expel negative energies.
Benefits
Energetic: In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), clove is considered a warming herb that breaks up stagnant energy by encouraging the flow of chi. It is highly valued for its ability to bring heat to "cold" conditions and is burned in rituals to provide protection and mental clarity.
Physical: Long used in Ayurveda to support digestion and soothe nausea, clove is a potent carminative that assists in physical comfort. It is also traditionally employed to support lung health and has been used for centuries in dentistry for its beneficial properties.
Aromatherapy: The intensely pungent and spicy aroma of clove is highly stimulating and invigorating. Its high eugenol content provides a deep, heating sensation that transforms a space into a warm, aromatic sanctuary, making it a favorite for "chai" blends and winter meditations.
Our Clove
