A gentler way to enjoy botanical incense.

How to warm botanical incense

Incense warming uses gentle indirect heat to release aroma from botanical incense, resins, woods, and herbs without directly burning them. A tealight warms the ceramic holder from below while the aromatics rest on a mesh screen, creating a low-smoke, no-ash scent ritual.

There is more than one way to experience botanicals.

You may already burn resins, warm woods, place aromatics on charcoal, or use botanicals in your own ritual. Warming is another way to experience those same natural materials, using gentle heat instead of direct flame.

The same natural materials. A softer, clearer scent experience.

What is incense warming?

Instead of lighting incense directly, a tealight gently heats the incense on the ceramic warmer from below. The natural materials rest above on a stainless mesh screen, where warmth slowly releases their aroma.

The botanicals do not burn down into ash. They warm, toast, and release scent gradually.

Incense warming vs burning

Direct burning or charcoal

  • Higher heat
  • More smoke
  • Ash remains
  • Scent can arrive quickly and intensely
  • Very little control over scent intensity

Gentle warming

  • Indirect tealight heat
  • Very little smoke
  • No ash
  • Scent unfolds slowly
  • More control over the amount used

A quieter kind of scent ritual

Warming gives natural aromatics time to unfold. The scent feels present but not overwhelming, and the ritual leaves no ash behind. It is a slower way to scent your space, one that feels simple, full, and easy to return to.

How to warm resin incense without charcoal

Resins can be especially beautiful when warmed. Always use foil when warming any single or pure resin. Add a small amount of resin, and let the gentle heat soften or melt it.

As the resin warms, it releases its clear, natural aroma without needing charcoal. The foil helps contain the resin and keeps the screen easier to clean.

Questions about warming

What is incense warming?

Incense warming is a way to experience resins, woods, and botanicals through gentle, indirect heat instead of direct burning. A tealight warms the ceramic holder from below while the natural materials rest above on a stainless mesh screen, allowing their aroma to release slowly with very little smoke and no ash.

Is incense warming a cleaner alternative to burning incense?

Incense warming can be a cleaner-feeling alternative to traditional burning incense because the material is warmed instead of directly burned. With Soul Space, the botanicals release aroma through gentle tealight heat, creating very little smoke and no ash. Our loose botanical blends are made with natural aromatic materials and no synthetic fragrance.

How is incense warming different from traditional incense?

Traditional incense is usually lit directly or burned with high heat, creating smoke and ash as the material combusts. Incense warming uses lower, indirect heat to release aroma without directly burning the material. The scent unfolds more slowly, and the experience is softer, lower-smoke, and ash-free.

Does incense warming create smoke or ash?

Very little smoke, and no ash. Because the botanicals are warmed instead of burned, incense warming creates much less smoke than traditional burning incense. The materials may toast or dry out as they warm, but they are not lit directly with a flame and do not burn down into ash.

What is the best way to warm loose incense?

Start with about 1 teaspoon of loose botanical incense spread evenly across the screen. Trim the tealight wick, place the tealight inside the warmer, and let the botanicals warm slowly. Use fresh incense for each warming session.

How much incense or resin should you use?

For loose botanical incense, start with about 1 teaspoon spread across the screen. For resin, start with a pea-sized amount or a few small pieces placed on foil. Use less for a lighter scent experience, or a little more for a deeper warming session.

Can you reuse incense after warming?

We recommend using fresh incense for each warming session. After warming, the botanicals may look toasted or dried out because much of their aroma has already been released.

What materials can you use with an incense warmer?

Many dry aromatic materials can be used with an incense warmer, including resins, small wood chips, dry botanicals, herbs, flowers, and loose botanical incense blends. Start with small amounts and observe how each material responds to gentle heat.

Can you warm resin incense without charcoal?

Yes. Resins like frankincense, myrrh, benzoin, and copal can be warmed without charcoal. Place a small piece of aluminum foil on the warmer’s screen, add a small amount of resin, and let the gentle heat soften or melt it so the aroma can release slowly.

Why use aluminum foil when warming resin?

Resins can become sticky as they soften or melt. A small piece of aluminum foil helps contain the resin, protects the stainless mesh screen, and makes cleanup easier once everything has cooled.

Is Soul Space incense natural?

Soul Space loose incense blends are made with natural aromatic materials and no synthetic fragrance. Each blend is designed to be gently warmed instead of burned, creating a low-smoke, no-ash scent ritual for the home.

Can I leave an incense warmer unattended?
