Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), has a rich history steeped in folklore and traditional uses. Its dark green leaves and aromatic scent have made it a valuable plant for centuries. The botanical name is derived from Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, fertility, and the forests and hills. Native Americans associated mugwort with witchcraft and believed that rubbing the leaves on the body kept ghosts away. Other magical attributes include protection for road weary travelers, and general protection against the evils of the spirit realms. Mugwort has even been reported to encourage dreaming.

Mugwort is often brewed into tea and can also be used as incense, made into dream pillows, and infused into tinctures. In traditional Asian medicine, mugwort is used in a process called moxibustion. Mugwort leaves are formed into sticks or cones, and then burned on or over an acupuncture point to release energy.
