Frankincense

History

Since ancient times, Frankincense has been used and valued for its medicinal and spiritual benefits. In one of the most important trading activities of the ancient world, caravans with thousands of camels traveled from Oman, across the Arabian Desert—destined for the Egyptian, Babylonian, Greek, and Roman Empires— to deliver this precious resin that was, quite literally, worth its weight in gold.

Benefits

Frankincense has long been used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese health practices. It is believed that this calming and grounding resin transmits messages to the limbic system of the brain, which is known to influence the nervous system. Its chemical components create an extremely powerful aroma that has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety levels and thus, help regulate the heart.

Frankincense has been used in spiritual rituals for thousands of years. It’s thought to be masculine in nature (Myrrh the feminine) and is used to clear inner energy channels and relax the mind. It strengthens intuition and is used for meditation. Its aroma creates an atmosphere of clarity, purity, and calm.

Our Frankincense

At Soul Space Incense, we source a wonderfully aromatic Boswellia Sacra from Oman. Omani frankincense has been prized for centuries for its high grade and superior quality. The aroma of frankincense on a ceramic incense holder is fresh, lemony, and bright. It takes over a pound of frankincense resin to make 1 ounce of frankincense essential oil. Warming these beautiful tears of frankincense resin on an incense holder is a wise way to use this precious tree.
